DALLAS MORNING NEWS
What’s it like? These 10 songs from nine musicals are performed by Broadway and television veteran Ilene Graff with babies in mind. The selections from PETER PAN, STARLIGHT EXPRESS and THE FANTASTICKS are gently sung and orchestrated. This is a first Grammy nod for Ms. Graff on her first solo album. Ms. Graff played the mom on ABC’s MR. BELVEDERE. Her husband, Ben Lanzarone, produced and arranged.
What the artists says about it: ”I used to sing these songs to my daughter Nikka. She loved ‘Castle on a Cloud’ from LES MISERABLES. Nikka is 20 now, Ms.Graff, who lives in Studio City, California, though parents might appreciate an alternative to the usual lullabies.
Parents tell her it makes them sleepy along with the babies. “That’s why I always tell people, ‘Don’t listen to it in the car.’”
What the kids say: Our five reviewers, who ranged from ages 8 t 12, all declared themselves to old to review this ‘baby” album. So Jonathan Diaz tried it out on his 10-month-old cousin, Natalie Lozano, and declared it a success. “She laughed at the first song and stayed calm in the others,” Jonathan says. “The last ones made her sleepy. She liked it.”
